Publicly at least, Atari insists they are still working on the VCS. Privately, I assume they're waiting for the hype they created to die down so they can slink off and pretend none of this ever happened.

Little known fact - Hoping to make a last few dollars from their Pac-Man license in the early 1990's, Milton Bradley designed a crossover with the then mildly successful Hero Quest franchise. Unfortunately, Pac Quest never made it beyond the prototype stage.

Coleco did not produce intentionally poor arcade ports for the Atari 2600. Anyone who tells you they did has only played Donkey Kong and has based their judgement almost entirely on the infamously gingerbread man-esque appearance of the game's primate antagonist.
Next time someone tries to feed you that tired old urban myth, show them this screen shot. The only thing that has been changed is the Donkey Kong sprite. They will no doubt be blown away by how much more like the arcade game this version is than Coleco's and possibly even exclaim that if this game had been released instead, the Great Video Game Crash would never have happened.
