A Low Threshold for Quality

Threshold might have been a decent game if only the collision detection were a little better. And by "a little better" I mean "existed at all."

We're three-quarters of the way through Atari's crowdfunding pre-order campaign for the new VCS and so far 11,000 people have paid a combined three million dollars for a thing that doesn't exist. It sort of reminds me of that famous scene from one of my favorite movies.

Cheese Viking Meets Its Violent Demise

Batman: Prelude to the Wedding Part 1 - Robin vs. Ra's al Ghul #1 hit newsstands two weeks ago, officially setting a new standard by which the once long and unwieldy Annihilation: Conquest titles are considered concise. Since my only interest in Batman comics is my favorite fake arcade game, Cheese Viking, I didn't get around to reading it until yesterday. Imagine my horror when I saw this:

That's Damien "This Year's Robin" Wayne using some dude wearing black leather's own whip to fling him into Gotham City's only Cheese Viking cabinet, because apparently Fredric Wertham was right all along.

Damien is appropriately horrified when he realizes what he's done. But, since he was dead for a while himself, he knows better than most that comic book deaths are rarely permanent. Let's hope that's as true for Cheese Viking as it was for him.

The best Atari 2600 arcade ports faithfully recreate the gameplay of the original, even when the graphics make it difficult to be sure exactly what the original was. (BTW, this is Up 'n Down by Sega.)
